A railroad superintendent
Was riding on Cecil's caboose

Determined to prevent any foot-dragging
Or any crew's ploy or ruse,

That official wouldn't tolerate
Any unplanned delays,

They had to get tied up on time,
No overtime allowed in those days,

About three-thirty that freight train stopped,
Supt. bailed out into the darkness and found

They were on the world's longest curved railroad bridge,
A long drop to the river and the ground.
