When cowboy idol, Gene Autry sang of you,
I heard it the very first time,

No one thought of it becoming a classic,
With its now-familiar first line,

We knew Dasher and Dancer and Prancer and Vixen,
Comet, Cupid, Donner and Blitzen,

We should have known that that white-hatted hero
Would add to the turkey and all of the fixin's

A name that the children think always has been there,
Bringing Santa's total to nine,

You'll never wear out your Christmas welcome,
Gene's gone, but you're still doing fine.
