I wonder to whom the mantis prays,
Maybe it's just a mantis craze,

Perhaps he's praying for a mate
Or good luck or even that fate

Will see him thru the leanest of years,
When shortage of food, as in his fears

Makes him want to hibernate,
No reason for him to celebrate,

The act of mating he seems to dread
As if he knows he'll lose his head.
