Floating across the avenue
On a slender gossamer thread,

Is there really a spider there
Or is it all in my head?

How can a strand so small be seen
When it catches such little light?

Were I close enough to see
Could I spy a spider in flight?

Did the mechanics of airborne travel
Come about by happenstance?

Or did the Creator perceive a need
For a spider to find romance?

Is it a matter of insect love?
Or maybe it's insect hate,

The Black Widow knows for sure,
Devouring her satiated mate.
