THE ROSE OF SHANNON

You're calm and serene like the stream whose name you bear --
It's innocence, not naivete -- one would hardly notice you there,

Still waters run so deep in the estuary of your river,
How appropriate that your name should be derived from a fresh water giver,

Erin's blood flows thru your veins, fair daughter of the isle,
Years from now I'll return to Ireland -- see your namesake's face and smile.
