Have you wondered why there are thorns on a rose?
Does such beauty really need protection?

It reminds me of a girl in my younger days --
Her father watched her like a hawk -- her fair complexion

Drew suitors like a magnet draws any old iron --
A spawning salmon attracts many males,

The masculine fish fertilize any old roe --
There's no one to take the wind from their sails,

In his infinite wisdom the Creator must have thought
We'd see a flower like a line of rhyming verse --

Appreciate the beauty and the fragrance that he wrought
And not try to analyze the obverse.
