As a kid I dreaded needles more
Than the things they inoculated me for,

But after a hundred were put into me
The worst that could happen was another I.V.,

I feared doctors more than other men,
Bad news was the thing that I dreaded from them,

Not knowing, I feared almost as much
As word of impending demise or such,

But fear results in wasted energy,
Its object is never as bad as it could be,

If only we knew the end from the first,
We'd find that the dreading is worse than the worst.
